Brief sketches for Ancillary Tasks

Here are a few brief sketches which I have scanned in for my ancillary taskes. I have drawn a very brief outline of the type of magazing cover anf film poster I wish to create. The magazine cover is very much inspired by 'Empire' magazine, after researching into their layouts and designs I have realised I like the simple layout which Empire magazine tends to have. I intend to stick to a three colour scheme on my magazine cover such as; red white and black- I feel these colours look professional and go well with each other. I intend to take a studio shot of my main subject as after looking at several types of different covers this seems to be the main type of picture used aswell- it also looks very professional! I like Empires main title so I will replicate this using adobe photoshop and will take inspiration from their layout- such as having all the articles on one side of the magazine, neatly alined. I will make sure the font is easy to read on the front cover as this is something I feel lost me marks in my work last year aswell as sticking to one or two of the same style fonts which are very easy to read to give the magazine cover a neat finish.

For my film poster I also want to keep it simple as I feel this look is far more effective. I intend to have a black background with white or ref font. Preferably white as red could be too dark and therefore hard for the audience to see. After looking at several different horror film posters I have favoured the blair witch product poster.  I really like how they have placed the main subject at the bottom, in black and white with creepy lightings on their face. For my picture I intend to take a extreme close up from a upwards angle of my models face to create a similar look- I may have my model close my eyes to portray the peaceful feel which our teaser trailer connotes.  I also really like the darkness to it which is why I intend to have my background black. I really like the composition of the title and the billing box which are positioned at the bottom of the poster- this is something I intend to incorperate into my own horror film poster. I intend to keep the top half of my poster quite empty with perhaps a slogan such as "What would you do if the past came back to haunt you...?" a line taken from our teaser trailer. Also; after looking at different styles of film posters some have ratings on the top which I feel looks good- this is something I would want to try on my own poster. For the billing box; I intend to keep it relatively small using the signiture long and thin font, I feel if it looks too big it will distract the audiences gaze from the main picture which will be relatively close to the billing box.
